Host team Lebanon goes 1-1, plays again Monday night

Sunday was a busy day of baseball in Lebanon! The weather cooperated and the teams, volunteers, and fans were out in force. Saturday's games finished up by early afternoon, and the Sunday games were moved to 3 and 5:30 PM start times.

Round 1 vs Newmarket

Despite out-hitting Newmarket seven to six, we lost 7-5 in our first game. We had a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Newmarket scored 6 runs in that inning for the comeback win.

  • Hits: Dawson Bates, Sam Bates (2); Cayden Van Dolah, Zach Aldrich and Francis Calandrella (1).
  • RBI: Sam Bates, Dawson Bates, Zach Aldrich (1).
  • Runs: Zach Aldrich (2); Cayden Van Dolah, Sam Bates, Francis Calandrella (1).

Dawson Bates pitched four strong innings, giving up only one run on four hits while striking out four. Francis Calandrella was terrific at second base; collecting four assists in four attempts.

Round 2 vs Berlin/Gorham

Lebanon defeated Berlin/Gorham 23-6 thanks to a strong start, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. The bats were back, and we outhit Berlin/Gorham fourteen to four in this game.

  • Hits: Dawson Bates, Zach Thompson (3); Ben Howland, Zach Gaudet (2).
  • Runs Batted In: Ben Howland (4); Dawson Bates, Zach Thompson, Francis Calandrella (3); Bodie Benoit (2).
  • Pitching: Ben Howland, Sawyer Weale and Domineaq Taylor combined in the four-hitter, striking out six and walking four.

After the first two rounds of play, the teams from Berlin/Gorham and the Lakes Region were eliminated from the 2017 state tournament.

Lebanon will take on Claremont at Smith Field at 5:30 PM on Monday, while Exeter and Suncook Valley play at Logan Field. The winners will play on Wednesday night, while the losing teams will be heading home. No games are scheduled for the July 4th holiday.
