Power lines had to be de-energized in order to find victim
SHARON - A long-time Sharon resident was killed late Wednesday evening when his motorcycle left the pavement on River Road, took down a power pole and plunged over an embankment.
Jonathan Rikert, 33, was discovered deceased as the result of severe injuries after crews from Green Mountain Power were summoned to cut the electricity to the tangle of downed wires which finally allowed police and firefighters to get into to the crash scene, Vermont State Police Trooper Stacia Geno reported.
The crash, which occurred during clear, dry road conditions shortly after 10 p.m. near house number 1775 remains under investigation and anyone with information is being asked to contact Trooper Geno at (802) 234-9933.
