LEBANON, NH - North Country Community Theatre brings the beautiful story of Beauty and the Beast to the stage as its 45th annual summer musical, performing this July at the Lebanon Opera House.
Producing a full-scale musical featuring community members is time-consuming work, why do we do it?
For high school science teacher Dan Falcone, doing NCCT doesn’t take him away from his family, it’s an opportunity to be together. Dan has been in numerous NCCT shows over the years; he and his wife, Meg, both appeared in a production of Oklahoma!. This year, Dan takes on the role of Gaston in the show, and three of his daughters are performing in the show as well. “I often watch my kids doing sports or school performances,” says Dan. “By participating in NCCT, I get to perform with them. We work toward a common goal and that brings us closer together.”
Jason Archambeault is playing the Beast in the production and he finds it rewarding to know that “what we do allows our audience the chance to leave this world for a while and enjoy being somewhere else.” Even more important to him personally is that he has expanded his circle of friends. “I have met so many wonderful, amazing people through NCCT that I may never have met otherwise. To me, having fun with these great people is everything.”
Actor Joe Guarino has been a part of NCCT for 20 years; he got his start in NCCT’s teen program. “I've been fortunate to build upon my craft while being extremely humbled along the way, learning in a supportive environment,” Joe said recently. “There's a fundamental reason why Beauty and the Beast is NCCT's 45th annual Summer production. It's theater FOR the Community presented BY the Community.”
Whether equating it to “summer camp for adults” or doing it “for the vibes!,” the people behind NCCT are all agreed on one thing - they are committed to bringing the story of Beauty and the Beast to life. As they juggle babysitters and laundry, jobs and rehearsal, they know it will all be worth it once the curtain opens. And the dirty laundry will still be there when the curtain comes down.
Beauty and the Beast performs at Lebanon Opera House in Lebanon, NH on July 7 - 9 and 13 - 15. Tickets are available for purchase at lebanonoperahouse.org or by calling 603-448-0400.
