Owner of Orange Blossom Wellness in Norwich, VT

Every week I highlight someone in the Upper Valley who falls under the title of "Wellness Professional" - trainers, nutritionists, therapists of all kinds (physical, psychological, massage), and creators of healthy products, to name just a few. I give them a list of the same 20 questions and they choose to answer as many of them however they'd like.

This week I'd like to introduce you to Yasmin Bihler, Owner of Orange Blossom Wellness in Norwich, VT

A Brief Bio: I have been a Physical Therapist for over 20 years and decided to open a wellness practice last fall. I am the owner of Orange Blossom Wellness in Norwich, VT, where I currently offer Ayurvedic Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage and private Yoga sessions.

What is your fitness/wellness philosophy?

Yoga and Ayurveda (Ayurveda is a sister science of Yoga and means the 'Science of Life') help us to get in touch with our bodies natural state of well-being. They teach us to harmonize and balance our system. I like how Yoga and Ayurveda are accessible to all people and age groups.

How did you get to where you are now?

That's a bit of a long story, but briefly: I was born and raised in Germany. I came to the US as an Au-pair and met my husband. I worked as a PT in a variety of settings and decided I was ready to pursue a more holistic approach to health. I enrolled at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in a 200 hour training of Foundations of Ayurveda. This reintroduced me to Yoga and so I decided to become a Yoga teacher. I just completed my Yoga training with Myriad Yoga and will graduate in July.

What makes you unique in your field?

I bring my education as a PT and extensive experience of over two decades to the table.

What's your go to meal for:

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with nuts, banana, cinnamon, ginger and almond milk
  • Lunch: soup, stew or sandwich
  • Snacks: nuts, cookies, fruit, peanut or almond butter with crackers
  • Sweets: chocolate
  • Dinner: we try to eat more vegetarian meals, but I also eat chicken, beef and fish
  • Beverage: hot lemon water, tea, a glass of white wine or port

What's you favorite place to eat out in the Upper Valley? What do you usually get?

My favorite place is definitely Peyton Place in Orford, NH. We try to go a few times every year for special occasions. I always eat the chorizo dumplings. They are absolutely delicious!

You're trapped on 12A in West Lebanon starving and you only have $8. What do you buy to get your through your errands?

A banana and nuts

What's your guilty pleasure (food or otherwise)?

I have a terrible sweet tooth and love chocolate. I also love a nap!

What's something health and wellness related that you wish you'd known years ago?

That the body reflects what goes on in the mind.

What's your favorite quote or mantra?

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." - RUMI

Who or what gives you inspiration?

I am inspired by the rich teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda. There is so much wisdom and knowledge in these ancient teachings that one can spend a life time studying it and only scratch the surface.

If you could only have one piece of fitness/wellness equipment what would it be?

Yoga blocks

What's your favorite non-gym physical activity?

Walking, biking and skating.

What are your passions outside of your field?

I love to walk (and talk) with my girlfriends, my family and dog. I also love to read and travel.

What's your least favorite exercise? Your favorite?

I don't like to do abdominal exercises, but know I need them. My favorite are the standing postures and inversions in Yoga.

What are one or two tips you can give to help people be successful in their wellness journey?

Nourish your body and treat it with tenderness and kindness. Make it part of your regular routine to exercise, eat well, sleep and have a regular massage. It will make a difference in your health and well-being.
