Norwich Fire Department Destroys Its Own Building

The Norwich Fire Department smashed windows, chainsawed the roof and sprayed water inside its own office in a rare opportunity to use its own building for training on Monday night.

The department just moved out of the building to a new temporary space in preparation for a new public safety building.

The volunteers brought all their gear for training in 90 degree heat on Monday.

How could they resist an empty building?

A new volunteer learned how to properly smash a window.

New volunteers took apart the roof.

Volunteers sprayed water inside former office space.

The fire department used a machine to create smoke inside the building to practice using a thermal imaging camera.

Volunteers took chainsaws up and down a ladder to attack the pretend fire from the roof.
