Teen charged with rocketing through construction zone
Allegedly hit 100 mph on Interstate 89 in Vermont
MONTPELIER, VT - A Bethlehem, New Hampshire teenager allegedly rocketed up Interstate 89 in Vermont shortly before noon on Thursday, passing through a construction zone and a red light before being stopped by Vermont State Police.
Vanessa Bean, 18, was charged with careless and negligent operation as well as excessive speed after state troopers said they witnessed her silver Toyota Camry doing 100 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-89 in Middlesex before slowing down just slightly and going 87 mph through a construction zone that had been marked down to 55 mph.
Sgt. John Helfant said that after Bean turned off the highway at Exit 8 in Montpelier police saw a final alleged infraction when she ran a light red before being pulled over.
Bean was issued tickets and citation to appear in Washington Superior Court on June 29th to answer the criminal charges.
