EBA's calls it quits after 38 years
Allen Street's landmark pizza shop suddenly closes
HANOVER, NH - Everything But Anchovies, the family-owned pizza shop that once served as a social gathering spot for generations of students at Dartmouth College abruptly closed its doors on Tuesday, sending a wave of nostalgia across the campus.
Although no official explanation for the closing was forthcoming Tuesday, there has been a steady increase of competition in both the pizza, restaurant and local eatery business in general since EBA's first opened its door nearly four decades ago in 1979.
And, as several people passing by the shuttered windows and locked doors of EBA's exclaimed out loud on Tuesday afternoon, "Domino's!" is the chief suspect among that wave of competition. Its distinctive fleet of freelance delivery vehicles, nicknamed "sharks" because of the glowing fin-like domino logos atop the cars, has become a common sight from White River Junction to Hanover where at some hours of the night they can be spotted parked three and four deep just waiting for stoplights to change.
