BarnArts Race Around the Lake is Sunday
A fun family event
Looking for something to do this weekend?
BarnArts Race Around the Lake will be held this Sunday, May
21st at 10:30 am at the Silver Lake State Park. Participants can choose a 5k or 10k option, and leisurely
walks are also welcome. Both routes go around the lake on roads and woodland
paths with intermittent views of Silver Lake. The 10k option takes people farther
afield, onto some of Barnard’s most scenic roads. The event features a chef’s lunch
with food from local businesses, music presented by Artistree and a fun-run for
kids following the races.
The 10k route takes runners past Past "the knob" at Feast and Field Market, where Heartwood Farm, Eastman Farm, Fable Farm, and Kiss the Cow Farm share a lease
Thanks to all the business sponsors valuing arts. Nonprofits meeting the basic and immediate needs of people such as housing, health, and food are also asking for our help right now. When so many are in need of the basics, the arts may seem frivolous, but it is more important than ever. If we are leaving this world to the next generations, we need to leave them with skills to think creatively, and to find their voices and speak up against injustice to build a better world. We need to take the time to listen to the stories of others, and take time for music and art to help us feel connected to something bigger than ourselves.

I'll be writing more features on local farmers, artists and community members working to make our world more delicious, more beautiful, more just, and just more fun.
