Hartford Baseball downs Windsor 8-1
Canes improve record to 6-1
By John Seaver
The Hurricanes, behind the strength of 11 hits and a sterling pitching performance by Dylan Spencer, won their 4th game in a row, an 8-1 victory over MVL rival Windsor Thursday afternoon. The victory improved the Canes record to 6-1 while dropping the Yellow Jackets to 6-3 on the season.
The Hurricanes got all the offense they would need to support Spencer in the 4th inning sending 10 men to the plate to take a 4-0 lead. Austin Gaudette got the inning started with a lead off double and came around to score on an RBI single by Kyle Hamilton. Hunter Perkins drove in two more with a single later in the inning off Windsor starting pitcher Seth Balch.
The Canes added to their lead in the 4th when Riley Packard walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a fielders choice and scored on a wild pitch. But the 4th inning also featured some heated exchanges between opposing players as well as opposing fans when Hartford's Hunter Perkins was hit in the head with a Seth Balch pitch. After a minute or so the game resumed without further incident but there were more than a few references to the current Red Sox-Orioles series.
The Canes got two more runs in the 6th when Tyler Hamilton & Dylan Spencer led off the inning with singles and scored on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Jordy Allard. Back to back doubles by Riley Packard and Tyler Hamilton gave the Canes an 8-1 lead in the 7th.
Windsor's scored their only run in the bottom of the 4th when Brandon Tillman singled to drive in Balch.
Hartford's Tyler Hamilton led the Hurricane offense going 4 for 5 with 2 doubles & 2 runs scored.
Category 5 Hurricane Player of the Game: Pitcher Dylan Spencer - The senior right hander threw a complete game 4 hitter with 9 strikeouts and kept the Windsor hitters off balance all game.
The Hurricanes next scheduled game is home vs Mt Anthony Friday but the weather is likely to postpone this one.
