Hartford Improves to 4-1 behind the Battery of Jordy Allard & Kyle Hamilton

By John Seaver

Prior to this, his senior year, Jordy Allard had been known around the state as a fire throwing closer.  And although up to this point he had only closed games in his high school career, this year he is building the reputation as a dominant starter.  After beating Bellows Falls in the season opener with a complete game 2 hitter,  Allard threw his second complete game gem of the season to power the Canes to a 4-0 win vs the U32 Raiders at a cold Maxfield Sports Complex Monday night to improve their record to 4-1.

The Hartford offense got all the runs Allard would need in the first inning on 4 hits.  After singles by Tyler Hamilton & Dylan Spencer, Hunter Perkins drove in Hamilton with a single and freshman Kyle Hamilton drove in 2 more with a 2 out single to left to give the Canes the early 3-0 lead.  The Canes added another run in the 5th on Kyle Hamilton’s 3rd hit of the game, this one a drive into the left centerfield gap to score Nate Robinson who had reached on a walk.

Centerfielder Connor Aitchison got the only hit of the game for the Raiders leading off the top of the third with a clean single up the middle.  Allard was lights out after that retiring 15 of the final 16 Raider batters with the only baserunner reaching after a passed ball on a strikeout. About starting for the first time this year Allard said "It's been something I've been working on, building stamina in the offseason, and to throw strikes and get outs efficiently.  It just has all been clicking so far."  I'll say - In 14.1 IP this season Allard is 3-0 and has given up just 1 run and 3 hits while striking out 24.

Tyler Hamilton & Hunter Perkins both added 3 hits for the Canes.

Category 5 Hurricane Players of the Game: Jordy Allard & Kyle Hamilton.  The senior Allard was dominate and efficient needing only 82 pitches in the complete game 1 hitter shutout and added 13 strikeouts.  Freshman Kyle Hamilton (Tyler’s brother) went 3 for 3 with 2 singles, a double and 3 RBI’s and caught Allard’s complete game win.

Hartford has a busy week ahead that will test their pitching depth with games at Lyndon Tuesday, at Windsor Thursday and home to Mt Anthony on Friday.
