State Police say Fairlee man violated restraining order hundreds of times
FAIRLEE, VT - Over 300 phone calls and "hundreds of sexually explicit text messages" sent to a woman who'd already been granted a restraining order against a Fairlee man resulted in his arrest earlier today, Vermont State Police Trooper David Shaffer reported.
Nelson Bates, 52, was lodged at the jail in Newport with bail set at $2,500 after state police showed up at his residence on Route 5 and took him into custody on Saturday following what troopers said was 48-hours' worth of harassing messages directed at the victim.
Bates is due at the Orange District Court in Chelsea on Monday afternoon to answer a felony charge of violating an abuse prevention order.
