Hello, Upper Valley! There’s a lot going on this weekend and so much to chose from, especially for you food lovers. Vermont Restaurant Week ends April 30 and many of our local restaurants are participating, so check our calendar. There are also lots and seminars and trainings this weekend to learn more about food. YOGURT MAKING

NORWICH

9AM-4PM

This three-day training on April 28, 29, and 30 is a practical, comprehensive, and technical guide to yogurt production and the principles governing the fermentation of milk to make yogurt. Participants will learn the specific skills to produce yogurt including food safety issues, fermentation science, and hands-on methods of making yogurt. These include: milk biochemistry, inoculants, sweetening, packaging, and the economics of yogurt production. Participants will also learn about the regulations applicable to yogurt production and business models for yogurt production operations.

LEARN TO DESIGN TEXTURES

HANOVER

10AM-4PM

This workshop covers the methods of adding depth and interest to metal surfaces, including chasing, matting & stamping; etching; roll printing; reverse roll printing; Keum Boo (by demonstration only); file carving (direct on metal); file & hammer finishes. Most of the processes are cold with the exception of needing to anneal the metal in preparation.

COMIC NIGHT WITH CINDY PIERCE

Cindy Pierce is a comic storyteller, author, educational speaker, innkeeper and mother. She has been performing and speaking all over the country since 2004. Stumbling into dicey situations and managing to find humor rather than shame continue to be Cindy’s trademark approach to life. Needless to say, she is a bit of a social liability for her three teenagers, but her husband, Bruce, keeps the family grounded. Cindy and Bruce live in Etna, N.H., where they own and run Pierce’s Inn.

PLANTING A FAMILY GARDEN

Come celebrate spring with a gardening program for the whole family. Through storytelling, music and hands-on demonstrations, Michael Caduto entertains while introducing indigenous family gardens and connections to the season of renewal. Slides and a demonstration of gardening designs and techniques show how to plan, plant and tend a historically accurate Native garden.
