Nursing home employee accused of sexually assaulting dementia patient at Valley Terrace
East Thetford man due in court Wednesday following arrest
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT - An employee of a nursing home who was allegedly caught having sex with an 83-year-old female dementia patient in her room on Monday by another staff member will be in court Wednesday to face a felony charge of sexual abuse of a vulnerable adult, according to Vermont State Police.
Michael Paton, 22, of East Thetford was arrested Tuesday following an interview at the Royalton State Police Barracks and lodged at the jail in Springfield for lack of $10,000 bail pending Wednesday's formal arraignment, Vermont State Police Detective Mike Dion reported.
The alleged assault was observed late Monday afternoon at the Valley Terrace assisted-living facility and immediately reported to the Hartford Police Department. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released later in the evening, police said.
