Don’t be fooled this year. There’s a lot happening on Saturday but first, here are some April Fools’ Day facts:

  1. It’s April Fools’ Day, not April Fool’s Day.

  2. It’s also known as All Fools’ Day.

  3. The French term for April Fools’ is Poisson d’Avril, which translates to April Fish.

  4. In Scotland, April Fools’ Day is celebrated over two days. April 1 is traditionally called Hunt the Gawk (cuckoo bird).

  5. Nobody knows how the day began.

FOOLS’ BALL

AVA ART GALLERY ANNUAL SILENT AUCTION

LEBANON

5-8 PM

It's time for the annual silent auction party! Join for a night of socializing and bidding. This auction is AVA’s primary fundraiser each year, so bid high and bid often. This evening will also provide ticket holders with an opportunity to take home an affordable original work of art from the 10X10 for $100 event, providing the perfect opportunity to start or add to your art collection.

PRUNING AND GRAFTING FRUIT TREES

STRAFFORD

1-4 PM

Mike Hebb describes the basics of pruning apple trees for aesthetics, health, longevity, better fruit, ease of harvesting and management. Hebb’s hands-on grafting workshop shows how grafting can be used to control many of the characteristics of growing trees, including size, timing of maturity and fruiting, disease resistance, drought resistance and fruit varieties.  He’ll cover cultivars, asexual propagation, whip grafts, nurse grafts, bark grafts, cleft grafts, bridge grafts, top working, inarching, brace graft, graft compatibility, budding and reference material. Participants will practice the mechanics of grafting in the workshop and discuss aftercare. A materials list will be sent to each registrant.
