Margaret Frances Harford, 94
Windsor, VT- Margaret Frances Harford, 94, died Wednesday March 15, 2017 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. She was born on April 8, 1922 in Lebanon, NH the oldest daughter of Harry and Mabel (Reynolds) Harford.
Margaret graduated from Windsor High School in 1940 and began her career at Cone-Blanchard Machine Tool in Windsor. She worked as a bookkeeper at Cones for over 40 years and was a dependable, dedicated employee. Margaret was always very organized and detailed and was still maintaining a balanced checkbook at the age of 94.
Due to her mother's crippling illness, Margaret helped raise her four younger siblings. Growing up during the depression was a difficult time and the family moved often before settling at 19 Coolidge Court where Margaret continued to reside for over 70 years. She enjoyed the close knit community of the court. The Harford family lived a simple life but were very proud people who always made the best of tough times. They enjoyed playing games-Margaret was the fastest runner during their tag games. On Sundays, the family enjoyed outings together and family picnics.
Margaret had a very strong faith and was proud of living a Christian life. She was very active in her church, attending Bible study, Sunday morning and evening services, and printing the church bulletins for many years. Margaret touched many lives by teaching Sunday School for over 40 years-in the later years co-teaching with her sister, Louise.
Sunday afternoons were spent visiting with family, walking to visit a shut in or rocking on the front porch. If Margaret and Louise learned of a need in the community, they were quick to respond with a visit, freshly baked cookies and a helping hand. Margaret was a proud Avon lady for many years.
Throughout her entire life Margaret sacrificed much and always put others' needs first but never complained.
Margaret is survived by her sisters, Maxine Wright (Harold) of White River Jct. VT and Alice Greene of Windsor, VT; nieces and nephews, Dianne Waters (John) of Reading, VT, Karen Wheeler (Buzz) of Readsboro, VT, David Harford of Claremont, NH, Ross Harford (Judy) of Weathersfield, VT, Greg Harford of CA, Gail Wright, Harold Wright Jr., Richard Wright (Judy), Ann Cerasoli, and Donna Wright of White River Jct., VT, as well as many grand nephews and nieces and great grand nephews and nieces. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; sister, Louise Harford; brother, Herbert Harford; brother-in-law, John Greene; sister-in-law, Patricia Harford; and nephews, Herbert Harford Jr. and Bruce Wright.
In memory of Margaret please do a kind deed for someone in need-visit a shut in, bake some cookies, or share a glass of lemonade and a story.
