Revolution is a slow-burning fuse. It starts burning when a government and certain political entities abuse their power by obstructing and defeating the interests of the majority in favor of a privileged few. The masses become worried, anxious, afraid, angry, confused, feel manipulated, abused, disrespected, insulted, ripped off – and powerless to do anything about it.
It is clear to me that the GOP, Donald Trump, and his operatives, are tyrannical, incompetent and corrupt, dangerous and destructive. I believe they were all complicit in rigging our presidential election prior to November 8, 2016. Had the shoe been on the other foot, however, and Hillary Clinton had won, Republicans of all stripes, with their hair on fire, would have demanded nullification of Hillary’s presidency and a full investigation into Vladimir Putin’s election-interference. However, since Republicans “won” and Democrats “lost”, Republicans are only paying lip service to any investigations, fearing a reversal of the election results.
The “tutored ignorance” Republican supporters are willing to subject themselves to, and the willful hate of their own countrymen and countrywomen is stunning. Evangelicals have sold their religious souls – and morals – to the oil and coal industries (Climate change is a hoax!). The Koch brothers, being religious conservatives, and in the energy business, stand to profit from this blind ignorance, hypocrisy, perversion of religion, and destruction of our democracy.
Trump supporters say “Just give him a chance”. Well, what if the rest of us give Donald the same “chance”, that he, the GOP, and conservatives nationwide, gave Barack Obama for eight years? Is that acceptable?
Conservatism’s hair-trigger response (no pun intended) to any mention of guns is directly related to the GOP’s Holy Grail: A permanent lock on power! To back that up, the political right wants a “well-regulated militia” for holding onto that power once achieved – conservatives want the “militia” but don’t want the “well-regulated” part (fascist Brown Shirts anyone?). Trump and the GOP’s efforts at evading and silencing the free press, and their combined efforts at absolute destruction of all checks-and-balances in government mirrors Nazi Germany of the 1930’s.
Revolution, is indeed, a slow-burning fuse. That fuse, however, is burning a little brighter – and a little faster. All rational-minded Americans – and there are many on both sides of the political spectrum – can take comfort in the evolving nationwide resistance movement against Donald Trump and Republicanism, irrationalism, anti-intellectualism, and the hyper-hypocritical conservative base. “Resistance” may very well turn into real “Revolution”.
