Unity fugitive captured in Canaan
Just didn't show up for his jail time
CANAAN, NH - A Unity man who's been on the run for months has been captured in Canaan by police acting on a tip, Canaan Police Chief Sam Frank announced Friday.
Rickie Shambo, 50, a former resident of Center Road in Unity had pled guilty back in March 2015 to a felony forgery charge and had a prison sentence imposed by the Sullivan County Superior Court; however, that sentence was temporarily stayed while Shambo appealed his case up to the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
When the supreme court denied his appeal last May they ordered Shambo to begin serving his assigned prison sentence but, police said, Shambo failed to report to jail and has been on the run ever since.
"Canaan Police officers received information that Shambo would be in the Canaan area (on Friday) and apprehended him during a motor vehicle stop on Prospect Hill Road," Chief Frank explained in a press release, noting that his department had been assisted during the apprehension by the New Hampshire State Police and that "the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department transported Shambo to the New Hampshire State Prison to being serving his sentence."
