Maple Syrup Spill Shuts I-91 Exit Ramp
A real Vermont mishap
The following Tweet appearing on the Vermont State Police feed:
Interstate 91 north at exit 27 in @NewportVT has been closed due to a #Maplesyrup spill. Fire dept is on-scene working on clean up.
Turns out the Tweet wasn't totally accurate. "A 55 gallon drum of syrup fell off a truck on the I 91 exit 27 off-ramp. Newport FD responded to put the drum back on the truck and clean up the syrup that spilled," said Scott Waterman, public information officer for the Vermont State Police. "Only the exit off-ramp was shut down during the recovery of the drum and clean-up."
Almost as good as the original Tweet were the comments proving that Vermonters have a sweet sense of humor.
"Did anybody put out an amber alert?"
"Hope no one was pancaked."
"They'll have to clean it up using thousands of pieces of French toast."
"The fire department pancake brunch came early this year."
"Sounds like a sticky situation."
"Reports in that IHOP is on scene to aid in the cleanup."
