Dealing with the political threat of Donald Trump and American Conservatism:
Revolution is a slow-burning fuse. It starts when a government abuses its power and people are concerned, anxious, afraid, angry, confused, etc. When people start reacting to abuse and injustice, that is the beginning of their involvement, first through expression of their concerns, via any number of avenues: letters to the editor, local forums, talking with friends and neighbors, etc. Second, if an individual believes there is the need, then more aggressive expression and involvement, via rallies, demonstrations, and so on, with like-minded individuals and groups. Then groups aligning with other like-minded groups, etc., etc. Eventually, this can turn into a nationwide revolt. If the abuse of power, and the injustice continues, or worsens, then a full-fledged revolution can happen.
“All-Hands-On-Deck” initially means that people should start paying attention – it’s a wake-up call. Later, “All-Hands-On-Deck” can mean “taking action” – of some sort. If this all turns into a nationwide revolt or an actual revolution, then “All-Hands-On-Deck” can mean, join the fight, if you are willing and able. The key word here is “willing”. That doesn’t mean you must join a revolution, you can be involved at any level you choose. What I am saying here is: We all should be concerned at some level with what is going on in our country and take action at some level, whatever that means for you.
I believe American political and religious extremists have been waging social-political warfare against all rational thought, real science, our democracy, our voting rights, etc., affecting our national wellbeing and security. This is against the interests of all reasonable, fair-minded and caring Americans. I believe we must rise to meet this social war head-on. However, war is a dirty business. If you want a “clean war” with “pure truth”, then you will not fight at all. The other side did fight – a very dirty fight. We did not rise to meet that challenge – and lost. The result is the current situation we see in Washington, D.C. and across our great nation.
I am suggesting that you choose your involvement – or no involvement at all, if that is your wish. In other words: You decide what “All-Hands-On-Deck” means to you.
