Stevens High School Boys Basketball Defeats Newport
The Stevens boysʼ basketball teams played 5 games this past week.
The JV and Varsity traveled to Newport on Monday, and hosted the Newfound Bears on Friday. The JV2 team hit the road to Merrimack Valley on Tuesday. On Monday, the Varsity made the short journey to Newport and handled the Tigers easily in a 67-25 victory. Zach OʼBrien led the way with 15 points. Henri Bourque added 13 points. Coby Hussey, Parker Smith, and Nick OʼBrien all chipped in with 7 points apiece. OʼBrien also hauled down 7 rebounds, as did Luke Come.
On Friday night the Bears of Newfound came to Frederick Carr Gymnasium and had to return home on the short end of a 71-25 score. Noah Spaulding tossed in a game high 16 points. Richard Bell had a season high 14 points. Drew Grenier had a season high 10 points, as well grabbing 7 rebounds. Zach OʼBrien and Henri Bourque each had 8 points, and Ethan Sweet chipped in with 7 points. Coby Hussey had 5 steals and 4 assists in the winning effort. Stevens will host the Wildcats of Fall Mountain on Wednesday night in a varsity doubleheader.
The varsity girlʼs will play at 5:30PM, with the boyʼs playing at 7:00PM. The JV team continued to roll as they defeated Newport 65-28 this past Monday. Tanner Durkee had a game high 14 points, and pulled down 9 rebounds. Joe Desilets had 11 points, Derrick Stanhope had 8 points, and Damon Roy, and Josh Stithen had 7 points each. Colin Lewis chipped in with 5 points and James Aiken had a season high 6 rebounds.
On Friday night, the JV Cardinals stayed unbeaten with a 70-34 victory over Newfound. Ethan Johnson led the way with a season high 15 points. Derrick Stanhope and Tanner Durkee each had 12 points in the win. Damon Roy added 10 points, while Mitch Paquette and Josh Stithen had 7 points apiece. Joe Desilets hauled down 8 rebounds.The JV team is off until Friday when they travel to Hillsboro for a 5:30PM contest with the varsity game to follow at 7:00PM.
The JV2 team was on the road again Tuesday afternoon making the trip to Penacook to take on the Merrimack Valley Pride. Stevens dropped a 32-13 decision. Alex Taylor scored 4 points, while Robert Woodhams, Tucker Derosier, Tyler Bonneau, and Matt Szelangowski each had 2 points.
The JV2 team will welcome Hanover for a
3:30 game Monday afternoon.
