It's easy to get cabin fever when the temperatures drop and you need to keep younger kids entertained. Here are some (FREE!) ways to keep the kids busy during the winter months in the Upper Valley.

Ice Fishing - If you have the right equipment, you can do this for free on your own. If you're new to the sport, you can try it out at the Youth Ice Fishing Derby at Dewey's Pond (Hartford, VT) on January 28th. The Canaan Lion's Club also hosts a (FREE!) annual Kid's Ice Fishing Derby. This year it will take place on February 12th in Canaan, NH. You can also sign up for a free Let's Go Fishing class through the New Hampshire Fish and Game department. The Dartmouth Greenhouse - Some days, you just need a warm, indoor place to explore. The Life Sciences Greenhouse at Dartmouth College is peaceful, warm and beautiful. You can discover new plants and even bring a lunch to enjoy at one of their provided tables. Hanover, NH

Story Times - Most of the local story times offer both crafts and snacks along with their book reading. These weekly events are a great place to connect with other families and get away from the cold.
