UPDATED: Tractor-Trailer Overturns at Norwich Off-Ramp
A tractor-trailer carrying pallets of bird-seed, equine bedding pellets, canned dog food and other animal supplies lost control early this morning on black ice and overturned just at the start of the Exit 13 off-ramp on I-91 northbound, blocking it.
By the time Upper Valley residents were tentatively venturing out this morning, a crew from Sabil & Sons towing of White River Junction had the off-ramp blocked off and was busy off-loading the truck's cargo. As members of his team tried to stay upright in the perilously slippery truck interior, Sabil's Doug Josler estimated that they would have the truck emptied, upright, and on its way by 2 pm. As of 2:30, the exit had been re-opened.
According to a press release from the Vermont State Police barracks in Bethel, the truck's operator, 62-year-old Kenneth Washington, was taken to DHMC with a strained back.
