Suspect: I snorted two grams of coke before pulling over
New Haven Connecticut men busted near Sharon Rest Area
SHARON, VT - Two New Haven, Connecticut men face multiple heroin trafficking, possession, and conspiracy-to-sell charges following what began as a routine stop for speeding early Friday afternoon on a stretch of Interstate 89 near the Sharon Rest Area.
Jonathan Alvarez, 27, and Ryan Mohr, 32, were lodged at the Springfield jail for lack of $100,000 bail each in anticipation of their arraignments which are scheduled for Monday afternoon at the courthouse in downtown White River Junction.
Vermont State Police Sgt. John Helfant said the pair sped northbound past him in a 2007 Silver BMW with Vermont plates shortly after 1 p.m. Friday. After the car was stopped, a state police canine sniffed around the outside of it and picked up on the odor of narcotics.
Sgt. Helfant reported that the subsequent search of the car turned up 320 bags of heroin.
Sgt. Helfant said that during questioning Alvarez allegedly confessed to having quickly consumed two grams of cocaine after he saw the blue lights behind him and realized they were being pulled over.
