Dear President-Elect Trump:
Norwich Congressman sends letter on behalf of Vermont's cows.
Last week, U.S. Representative Peter Welch sent a letter to the president elect—at his Trump Tower address— asking him to focus on "the steep challenges facing hard working dairy farmers across this country." Welch went on to recap the main problem facing Vermont's dairy farmers: a 40 percent drop in milk prices in the last two years.
Welch outlined four steps Trump could take to fix the problem.
* Implementation of a supply management tool.
*Reform the Margin Protection Program—a system of price supports that isn't working.
* Increase demand by opening new international markets and encouraging domestic consumption.
*Ensure a reliable labor supply.
