Celebrate the Season!
Upper Valley Music this Weekend
Well, the holidays are officially upon us. Aside from the daunting shopping list posted on the fridge or on our phones, we are also going to be faced with a number of holiday-themed events and get-togethers. Perhaps for you, these invitations have already begun trickling in...
Chief among these celebrations in the Upper Valley is the Celebrate the Season event happening in Hanover. Like any celebration, there's some excellent live music associated with this weekend event.
While this blog often focuses on music of the rock and pop variety, there's a very special place in my old soul for the songs best heard accompanied with holiday decor. I'm speaking, of course, of the American Catalogue of Christmas Carols. For folks like me who love the good cheer of a holiday standard, this Friday is a wonderful opportunity to get your fill.
At 6pm there are not just one, not even two, but THREE opportunities to hear some amazing acapella caroling across downtown Hanover. At 6 South Street, you can check out the Hartford Glee Club. A little ways away, The North Country Chordsmen will be performing at their traditional spot on the steps of Hanover Park. And last but not least, after watching them perform at the Tree Lighting ceremony on the Dartmouth Green, you can catch the Christmas Revels spreading good cheer at the Skinny Pancake.
Once you've gotten your fix of carols, there's also an excellent sampling of guitars, drums and bass available for your ears on Friday night.
If you're sticking around Hanover, Vermont native Leyeux, will be at the Skinny Pancake starting at 8pm. This kid is seriously impressive. If you can't make it to the show, check out some of his videos on the Interwebs. Wow.
Elsewhere in the UV, White River Junction is throwing one of their classic First Friday bashes. This one sounds like one for the ages with the inclusion of an "18+ Dance Party" at Club 188. Formerly Tupelo Music Hall, Club 188 is the nom de fun for the Engine Room co-working space after hours. Sounds like a good time to me.
Lots of good music happening across the Upper Valley this week so be sure to give a listen wherever you are. Which shows are YOU most looking forward to this week?
