Late Thursday night or early Friday morning, vandals destroyed dozens of mailboxes along Elm Street, Hopson Road, Trumbull Lane and Main Street in Norwich.  The unknown people also wrecked four crosswalk signs.

"They were all broken off at the base where the post goes into the stand and look like they have been run over, with black marks across them," said Police Chief Doug Robinson, speaking about the crosswalk signs.

Although most of the mailboxes have been replaced, you won't be seeing the crosswalk signs, which are repairable, again this year.

"We usually bring the crosswalk signs in during the winter to aid in snow plowing and snow removal," said Robinson.  "We are not planning on putting them back out again until spring."

Anyone with information about the vandalism is urged to contact Chief Robinson by phone (802-649-1460) or by email:  Doug.Robinson@vermont.gov
