Cooking Classes in the Upper Valley
Where can you find cooking classes? Most people know about the wonderful baking offerings at King Arthur and the tasty seasonal and ethnic cooking classes at the coop in Lebanon. Here are some places you may not have known about.
Leslie’s Tavern in Rockingham
This restaurant in a quaint colonial home not only has wonderful food and atmosphere, but it also offers cooking classes. Classes are Mon. from 6-8:30 pm for $55. I'm looking forward to trying one out. If their restaurant food is any indication of what's in store at their classes - we're in for quite a treat! Find upcoming classes like soups and stews, and braising on their Facebook page or website.
Upper Valley Nutrition
Upper Valley Nutrition in Newbury, VT focuses its classes on healthy cooking like different ways to prepare squash. Best of all the classes are free! Come join them at Oxbow High School to cook up something fresh.
Sugar Glider Kitchen
Um...yum...is all I can say when looking at the photos on Gesine Bullock-Prado's website. Classes are often 3hours long and go from 10am to 1pm. Learn about puff pastry, eclairs, tarts, macarons, and more.
Lebanon Cooking Meetup
This local meet up hosts cooking classes where you can learn and share new recipes from international cuisine (like Brazilian, Slavic, and more) This is an active meet up so you'll be able to jump right in and learn. All culinary skills welcome.
Hanover Park and Rec at Richard Black Rec Center
I had to read it twice. Did it really say $5 for a cooking class? Yes. Yes it did! Wow. What a deal! Cooking with summer berries and summer time easy cooking (upcoming end of July 2018). Sign me up! Great class ideas.
Jam awesomeness at Blake Hill in Windsor. This is a hands on class with plenty of opportunity for questions. I love all the creative jam recipes you'll come away with.
Amy Tuller is a dietician who offers classes on topics like diabetes cooking, Mediterranean recipes, and healthy eating on a budget. Classes range from $20-60. The $20 class includes handouts and menu ideas and in the $60 class you cook and then enjoy the meal together. Last updated in 2016. Hope to see more classes soon!
Beyond the Upper Valley
Alice's Kitchen in Corinth, VT is an hour from the Upper Valley but has cooking classes, baking classes, and custom classes. Learn how to make croque monsieur, homemade mac and cheese, tarts, cookies, layered brownies and more. She does cooking classes for kids too like an edible gifts class in December. What a great idea!
Kitchen at the Store
If you don't mind traveling a bit, there are cooking classes at the Kitchen at the Store for $60 in Waitsfield, VT. Classes include topics like Moroccan spices, bubbly casseroles, classic sauces, and French cuisine. That's just in November! You can take a fondue class in Dec. and a fresh pasta class in Jan. Make a day trip of it.
Another great place to take cooking classes is at the Cafe Provence restaurant in Brandon, VT. They offer wonderful meal ideas like salmon wrapped scallops, pork medaliions, and apple tart, or butternut squash, lamb curry, and chocolate bread pudding. Classes are $50 and if you buy 3 you get 1 free. This is another great day trip idea.
You're in for a treat if you've never been to the Culinary Playground in Derry, NH. The Culinary Playground offers cooking classes for kids, teens, and adults. Classes include making donuts, holiday favorites, and mac and cheese with butternut squash. They even offer couples cooking and meal prep classes. I particularly like the Guy's choice with parmesan fries, burgers, and icecream floats and the fall harvest cooking class. Classes range in price, depending on the topic. A definite fun day trip or gift idea.
Enjoy and happy cooking!
