Music around the Upper Valley
Another week, another Local Music Corner round up of the sounds around towns.
Before I started spending time in the Upper Valley, I was told about the "world-class theater" around the region. I'll admit I was quite skeptical. But the amount of quality theater, musical and otherwise, that exists in this relatively small community is gosh darn impressive. This week is no exception as it's a HUGE week for musicals.
Elle Woods and company head to the Lebanon Opera House for Legally Blonde: The Musical. Aside from being a musical about the Reese Witherspoon rom-com, this performance is additionally special. 1. It's a fundraiser for local children-focused non-profits and 2. Jodi Picoult (my mother's favorite author), founded the Trumbull Hall Troupe putting on the performance. Pretty cool, huh?
Over at Briggs Opera House, Choir Boy begins previews on November 3rd. A collaboration between Artistree in South Pomfret and JAG Productions, this production was voted best play of the year by LA Times. You should certainly check this one out.
If musicals aren't your bag, Thursday night over at Windsor Station has you covered. The Strangled Darlings have been increasingly building buzz across the Upper Valley with a number of shows at the Salt Hills and Boho Cafe in WRJ. If you've missed those, take the opportunity to join them in Windsor this week. Rumor has it they may even be planning a hot New Year's Show in this neck of the woods...
And one quick shout-out before I go. Zach Nugent, a Sharon Academy Grad with UV Roots, is just wrapping up a national tour with Melvin Seals and the Jerry Garcia Band. This guy really knows how to play his Jerry licks and oozes with the spirit of the Grateful Dead. He'll be having a Thanksgiving homecoming of sorts at the Skinny Pancake Hanover on November 26th with his own outfit, Dead Set. Tickets are on sale NOW.
Lots of good music happening across the Upper Valley this week so be sure to give a listen wherever you are. Which shows are YOU most looking forward to this week?
