OSHER. Writers and Poets. Book Launch. An Invitation
"I need shorter lists and longer vacations . . ." *
OSHER at Dartmouth has its artists, including writers and poets. Pam Ahlen, poet (and program director for Bookstock), established the annual OSHER Literary Evenings beginning in 2010 to allow writers to meet each other and to present their work. Following last year's event, she thought it was time to celebrate OSHER's 25th anniversary of literary and other doings by inviting all former Literary Evening presenters to contribute to a single, published work. So, hot off the press, voila! the Anthology of Poets and Writers, and an invitation to an event on November 16 to launch the book.
THE ANTHOLOGY OF POETS AND WRITERS: OSHER AT DARTMOUTH CELEBRATING 25 YEARS
Date: Wednesday, November 16
Time: 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Location: DOC House (Dartmouth Outing Club, directly across from the Hanover golf course on Occum Pond; parking is available)
Anthology cover photo by Anne Baird. Cover design and production by Sarah Chamberlin
Authors will give brief readings of their work. Copies of the anthology will be on sale for $10, which will help to defray the costs of production. (Great holiday gifts for your Upper Valley friends and those from away.) Refreshments will be served. You do not need to be an OSHER member to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
A sneak preview of the book itself: It is a svelte glossy-covered volume containing the works of 25 contributing authors and visual artists, representing (to quote the introduction by Ahlen) ". . . what we care deeply about." In these works of fiction, nonfiction, essay, memoir, and poetry, one "will encounter war and lilies, Cicero, and a 100 year old mother."

(Full disclosure: My work is contained in the anthology and I may be reading one of my flash nonfiction pieces at this event.)
