Mohan at the Skinny Pancake, Esperanza Spalding
Live music in the Upper Valley this Weekend
What a delightful time to be in New England! As the droves of out-of-state plates indicate, the Upper Valley is hovering right around ‘peak’ foliage right now, bringing in a whole new flux of folks to enjoy our parts, our people, and our music.
To celebrate the fall, Patrick Ross rolled out his Hot Flannel line-up to perform without amplification at three historic Vermont town halls this past weekend. What a wonderful way to welcome fall into our lives? Oh, and we all got to enjoy an Upper Pass Beer Company Stout in Sharon’s Seven Stars Arts Center. Be on the look out for Patrick and his gang of pickers to be lighting up more town halls across Vermont. And if you couldn’t make it to one of these shows, word is, they’ll be available for download through Ross’ Rock Farmer Records.
Headed into this week, the winds of fall bring lots of good tunes our way.
On Saturday, Esperanza Spalding takes the stage at the Lebanon Opera House. Spalding, touring behind her latest, Emily D+Evolution, was recently featured on President Obama’s Songs of Summer playlist. Her mix of jazz and pretty much everything else is more or less indescribable. But it is awesome. Politics aside, the President has a pretty impressive taste in music.
In the ‘artists you wish you saw when they were still playing in tiny venues’ department, Mohan comes to the Skinny Pancake-Hanover. This unassuming, young, singer-songwriter, has been having his name passed around the VT music scene for a bit now. And it’s no wonder why. With crazy impressive pipes and some serious songwriting chops, this Berklee grad is sure to break. I talked to Mohan and he’s been working on a bunch of new material he’s excited to start playing for folks. Mohan hits the Skinny stage at 7pm Saturday and you can get into this one for FREE.
Lots of good music happening across the Upper Valley this week so be sure to give a listen wherever you are. What shows are YOU most looking forward to this week?
