Coming Soon – Piecemeal Pies!
A new spot opening in White River Junction next month will take the classic baked dish back to its roots.
Everybody wants a piece of the pie.
The word causes a tingle in your taste buds, doesn’t it? I know this because it does mine. Maybe you think back to the last time you had a piece. The whipped cream. The a la mode. Or maybe you daydream of the sugar-sparkly crust, flaking apart with each fork cut.
Now think back to the 12th century. England.
Not that you’d want to – Medieval England wasn’t so great. But that’s where pies originally came on the scene.
Although sugar, fruit and sweet filling weren’t yet considered ingredients. In fact, these “pyes” were filled with spices and meat – beef, wild duck and pigeon, for example. The crust of the pie was referred to as “coffyn”…kinda dark, but since it acted as an encasement for the meat and wasn’t usually edible, it seems appropriate.
It’s this history that inspires newcomer
Piecemeal Pies, as they prepare to open in August in downtown White River
Junction. Per their website, they’ll offer a range of meat
and veggie pies, as well as sweet pies to satisfy those tingly taste buds. Soups,
side dishes and salads will also be served, rounding out a hearty lunch
offering or a delicious take-home meal.
Piecemeal Pies will open in August at 5 South Main Street in White River Junction.
Local and responsibly raised ingredients will be baked into each pastry and accompaniment; they’ll also have many gluten-free options. And keeping with the English theme, they’ll have a bar serving hard ciders and beer from all over New England.
The only bummer is that we have to wait until next month to try all of these English vittles! In the meantime, you can follow them on Facebook and Instagram to watch the restaurant’s new space progress and transform.
So get your pie holes ready for next month’s opening at Piecemeal Pies, located at 5 South Main Street in WRJ, VT!
