According to the Valley News, 45% said they want Lebanon's goal to be a great small-town atmosphere, and 50% voted for the catchwords "a great place to live, work and play". The on-line survey repeats this, but I think those of us unable to get to last week's forum should also weigh in and discuss this.
What do we mean by small-town atmosphere? For me, it means an inclusive, complete community. Where all income levels and skill sets can find a place to live and feel comfortable sitting next to each other at a game, discussion, or community dinner, kayaking, doing a nature hike or exploring AVA. Where the intermingling of individuals and families breeds both tolerance and creativity. Where you can get a job that will pay enough to allow you to hire neighbors with the skill sets you lack. Where we will not only continue to be the seat of DHMC and APD, but grow our innovative start-ups and help dedicated tradespeople and craftspeople thrive. I want a vision that includes all our people. Its diversity is why when I came home to the Upper Valley I picked Lebanon.
What do you want? The survey is on the top page at lebnh.net. But I hope our planners will also read our context in this on-line forum.
