As the long awaited holiday weekend approaches its only natural to ask yourself: "What do I want to do?" Better yet, I'd ask, where do you want to go? While some are content with staying at home, barbecuing or baking in the sun I am unlike some. I've always preferred to be on the road headed to some new destination or a favorite old one.
Now I know it's redundant to be stuck in a hot car for who knows how long while the potentially nice weather(this is New England) is outside. But chances are the destination is worth the journey. If you stop and think about it, how many places could you visit if you knew you had the whole day or even the weekend! There are great places right in our own backyards. And I don't mean your literal backyard. That would defeat the whole purpose of getting out and exploring.
I'm not going to touch on any place specifically or suggest places to visit. Im simply here suggesting we explore the beauty that is created everyday for us to enjoy. Go for a hike on a local trail or take a trip to a new one. Go alone or bring the whole family.
I won't say there aren't drawbacks to traveling, even in our own state. Between the hot weather and cluster of tourists that flock every year it can really make for a hair pulling, road ragin' kind of situation. Again, the destination will be worth the journey. Or in my unfortunate case trying to leave Hampton Beach on Fathers Day, the memories made will be worth it.
As I sit here imploring you to get out and explore the great unknown I'll say I don't have any immediate plans for traveling. I'm more of a last minute traveler if you will. That's the beauty of where we live though. I could think of a place I want to visit on my way home today.
So to end, I wish everyone the curiosity to find your own special spot this coming holiday weekend. Create memories there and have a safe holiday while remembering why we have a holiday in the first place.
