My sister-in-law, who had worked as a camp counselor in the area for years, has talked about a Thetford farm stand with a café just past the farm stand’s doors. From her vague description, I’d pictured a gritty, sun-drenched farm worker taking a break from the fields to serve up cowboy coffee to passersby. Well, I found out last weekend and again a couple days later that is not the case with Cedar Circle Farm’s Hello Café.
Hello Café is situated just behind Cedar Circle Farm’s farm stand, in a cute building with two screen doors and lots of character. The café offers hot coffee and lattes, iced coffee and teas, and fresh baked goods like muffins, scones and cookies scrumptiously teasing from within their glass case. My afternoon sweet tooth almost gave in to a pear fennel scone, but I resisted for the moment and ordered only an iced coffee. My barista pulled a cold pitcher from the mini fridge behind the counter and filled a to-go cup with room for whole milk, which was presented to me in a glass milk jug also taken from the fridge. For $2 and some change I was about to be quenched and caffeinated.
Inside the café are four tables, which looked to be great spots to enjoy breakfast before heading to work, or to meet up with friends for an afternoon pick-me-up. Wireless internet is also available in and around the café, so you could make it a work-from-café day while energizing yourself with cups of certified organic, fair-trade Café Mam coffee or espresso. Picnic tables, a sandbox and lots of green grassy space are just outside, so why not scrap the work and take in a picnic with the family?
Hello Café is now open daily 8am – 5pm until November.
