Low-St. John Forest is located just outside of Bradford, VT. I've only ever heard it called Low Forest. I have lived in Bradford (mostly) since I was 3 years old and it is only recently that I have started making use of Low Forest. Bradford Elementary School owns the nearly 75 acres of land. Several trails run through Low Forest that are good for hiking, running or just ambling about. There is a brook and small pond a short walk from the parking area. It is an excellent place to bring children exploring.
Views of the White Mountains can be had at a few looks outs in the Forest. In winter it is a great place for snowshoeing, or for the hardier skiers, cross-country skiing. One trail winds its way through deciduous forest and up through a beautiful hemlock forest before coming out at the “summit,” a large field from which one can see the Connecticut River winding through the valley, and the mountains across the valley in New Hampshire.
