Beer for My Horses?
Yep, you heard me right. There are several reasons why horse owners might include a can of Guinness (the traditional choice) in their horse’s feed.
For horses in heavy training, the beer can help them sweat, it can replace iron, and, for finicky eaters, the beer can help get those horses to eat.
The reason I hear from local riders is frequently different though. Many non-competitive riders give their horse a beer as a treat after a long ride or as a holiday delight. How many horse owners made it out to their barns to surprise their horses with yummy winter gift?
Other holiday goodies abound. Plenty of recipe books have been written for those who are DIY-inclined, and for those who are not bags full surround the register and lay on shelves in every equine store. Big treats, small treats, and little cute gift-y bags of treats that would last a few days total... with a single horse.
Much like I hung stockings for my cats and asked Santa for a horse so I could to hang one for him too, animal lovers spoil our creatures in the best of ways. Now I wonder, would my cats like beer too?
