Dear Friends of the MSM,We're closing a year that has been nothing less than phenomenal . . . because of you! As a "participatory museum" the more you and your friends, families, and colleagues plan or attend MSM events, the more you strengthen the core mission.
The Main Street Museum aims to promote free inquiry, freedom of
expression, and a chance for everyone to “be themselves” without
apology. These goals are supported by public spaces at the museum where
traditional standards of decorum are upheld and protected.
Contributing or encouraging others to donate to the museum helps keep the programming current, the planning active, and the doors open with all costs covered.
The Main Street Museum operates in an uneasy niche. Arts people
think we are a history organization. History people think we are an arts
organization. Science and library people don’t know what to think of
But we are what all museums are at their core, a place where
people and artifacts gather in a way that creates life changing events:
fellowship in St. Petersburg, Russia, I was told by a another fellow,
that we are a meta museum. In other words, that we can be useful, in
doing what museums do, which is to sort out and to order and to actually
/sift/ artifacts so that we can understand our world.
(David Fairbanks Ford)
differently, the Main Street Museum can teach other museums about why
we bother to collect what we collect and why we present it to the
can tell people about the big picture; About their roots. Our roots can
tell us why we are here, and why what we do, every day. (DFF)
are some things that are more important than this.
But we can’t think of
That’s how important the MainStreet Museum is.
