FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (please forward widely!)White River Junction, VT --
The Main Street Museum operates in an uneasy niche. Arts people think
we are a history organization. History people think we are an arts
organization. Science and library people don’t know what to think of
us. But we are what all museums are at their core, a place where
people and artifacts gather in a way that creates life changing events:
I was on a fellowship in St. Petersburg, Russia, I was told by a
another fellow, that we are a meta museum. In other words, that we can
be useful, in doing what museums do, which is to sort out and to order
and to actually /sift/ artifacts so that we can understand our world.
(David Fairbanks Ford)
the Main Street Museum can teach other museums about why we bother to
collect what we collect and why we present it to the public:
can tell people about the big picture; About their roots. Our roots can
tell us why we are here, and why what we do, every day. (DFF)
But we can’t think of any.
That’s how important the Main Street Museum is.
