From the May 6 Norwich School Board minutes:
Principal Hammond reported that enrollment is currently projected at 293 for next year. There are 29 potential new students (15 of which are expected); six students are leaving. Enrollment could reach 305. Principal Hammond spoke about the incoming students in reference to the 44 students already enrolled next year in the second grade, and he requested a l9th teacher. It is expected that there will be a decreased special education need, and the cost of an additional teacher could be offset by decreasing the number of special education FTEs and finding other expense savings. The Board discussed the hiring of an additional teacher and its impact on the budget. There is a surplus expected at the end of this year. There may also be a need for a specialist for speaking English. There was Board consensus to add a teacher, and it was stated that it would be easier to find applicants for the position now than in August.
