Saving the Yellow Barns. Over the last six months or so, a group of people from around the Upper Valley have banded together to raise money for the renovation of the eye-catching barns of the Lemax Farm on Route 5 in Hartland. Now, Friends of Lemax Farm is trying to raise $15,000 toward that goal on Kickstarter -- and still has $4,000 to go in the next 2 1/2 days. If you've registered for dailyUV, here's a Norwich Times article from last fall about the farm and the bid to save the barns.
Have You Seen This Balloon? The Rauner Library blog -- that's Dartmouth's rare book library -- is up today with a totally great post about a threesome of adventurers' ill-fated attempt in 1897 to fly over the North Pole in a hot-air balloon (stop and think about that one for a minute). Their fate remained unknown for 33 years. If you want to swing by the library, it has materials collected by a reporter who covered the 1930 discovery of the expedition's final camp. Including news stories like, "Heroic Struggle Bared in Notes Found on Bodies." Clickbait long before there were clicks.
