As many of you may know, I'm a Chinese immigrant who grew up in New York City Chinatown. I have very different expectations of Chinese food.
My experience tonight at the Orient was extremely positive. To my surprise and delight, I discovered some "TRULY" authentic sichuan dishes on their NEW menu. Not having had any of those dishes around here, I so wanted to order everything on it, but had to restrain myself. All of the dishes were flavorful, very spicy (although, thankfully, not deathly spicy), absolutely authentic, and certainly comparable to NYC standards.
In addition to the great authentic dishes I ordered, we were able to request a dish made just for my husband who is on a no-sodium diet. They were very accommodating and made him a flavorful stir fry without any salt or soy sauce or other sources of sodium.
I know the owners want to provide excellent food using the freshest ingredients. If I were in their shoes, I would appreciate my patrons/neighbors coming to me immediately if the food is disappointing so that I can assess and address the issue. I encourage you to give them a try and approach Fen and Tony directly if you are less than satisfied.
