If you have ever attended an event at Northern Stage, you may have noticed Dick Katz snapping pictures of the fun, or perhaps you were one of the hundreds of artists greeted by Betsy’s luminous smile when you came to a Cast and Crew Dinner. Dick and Betsy are Director’s Circle Members and Backstagers. We asked them to talk about what makes their relationship to Northern Stage special.
“Betsy and I retired North over 10 years ago. Loving theater as we do, and there was lots of that in the Connecticut area, we soon found Northern Stage and have climbed that staircase since.
Northern Stage quickly became part of our lives. We helped break down a set. We sat around a bunch of tables with other Backstagers cutting donations of old furs for costuming for Cats. We chatted and dined with many actors over the years.
Northern Stage really is part of our lives – it always brought excitement. And then came The Director’s Circle, and Northern Stage became a priority. Thursdays and Saturdays always found us in White River Junction learning about the next production and then watching part of the rehearsal. Chatting with the actors, directors, and Carol – this all makes theatre come alive for us.
Whether it’s walking into the Miller building and being greeted with a “Hi, Dick and Betsy,” or bringing our veggie lasagna to a Backstagers pot luck, we are the big winners as a part of the Northern Stage family.”
