Several people have asked about shields for smart meters. The following website describes how you can shield your house from the radiation from a smart meter: http://electricsense.com/2431/smart-meter-shielding-tips/ The site suggests that aluminum foil will do the trick.
Note that I have not been able to independently verify the validity of the information on the website.
However, if you follow the suggestion you find there, I think better would be to purchase a piece of sheet aluminum several feet square and have CVPS place it on the outside wall with the smart meter installed on that sheet. The aluminum will then be between the meter and the interior of your house.
Second, some people have inquired about hard wiring would make digital smart meters unnecessary. Washington Electric Coop and Vermont Electric Coop are using their own wires to achieve this solution. However, CVPS is not following this path. Hence the only hard wired solution in our future will be through a fiber optic network. ECFiber is working hard to bring fiber optics to our towns, but we're not there yet.
hope this helps,
