on its website and in a Facebook post on Friday afternoon.

Users encountered significant problems with the online Common Application system between 11:35 p.m. Jan. 1 and 2:35 a.m. Jan. 2, according to the organization’s Facebook page. The Common Application posted an update on Wednesday to its Facebook page that explained the glitch to member colleges and universities. All member colleges with a Jan. 1 deadline will accept applications that were submitted promptly on the morning of Jan. 2.

A new version of the Common Application’s online portal, which launched in August 2013, faced glitches in the fall, complicating the early decision application process at many universities. In turn, over 40 schools extended their early application deadline, including Dartmouth. The College postponed the fall’s early application deadline from Nov. 1 to Nov. 8.

The Common Application handles applications for over 500 member schools, including the entire Ivy League. As of Friday afternoon, Columbia University and Vanderbilt University had also extended their regular decision application deadlines. Admissions officers could not be reached for comment by press time.
